Beis Hamikdosh

Below are the excellent poems about the Beis Hamikdosh that were written and read out last week at the Year 5 Cheder assembly.

The first Beit Hamikdash
By Paige Cowan and Honi Pein

Made of silver, copper and gold
The temple stood in times of old
It stood in Israel proud and tall
And was much much bigger than any shul

Jews came there three times a year
They gathered together from far and near
Then the Romans came and knocked it down
They drove all the Jews out of their town

Now it's gone and we're in exile, but we pray every day
for G-d to have mercy and rebuild it, as then all our troubles will go away

The Second Beit Hamikdash
by Sam Bradman

The Beit Hamikdash stood for 420 years, The gold taps were glistening and it's ark was pure. Ten thousand men were used to build the site. But 420 years later it was knocked down down by might. The embedded jewels stuck in the copper walls stood for 420 years being bold. The marble floor gave in when the Babylonians smashed it down. Now all we have is one wall standing proud standing tall. They came to me three times a year. Now they come to cry out their tears

I am the Beit Hamikdash
By Jordan Becker and DannyWaxkirsh

I am the Beit Hamikdash
I am the inspiration to Jews
And I may be destroyed
but I am never forgotten
for I am the Beit Hamikdash

I remember the day the Romans came
They hit me and bashed me, they can't be tamed!
Nobody could believe that I fell and crashed
For I am the Beit Hamikdash

The Romans hit me and tortured me
While sneering and jeering
But all I felt was pain
For I am the Beit Hamikdash
